Idrac License

Get the iDRAC License Key 1. Once registered, go back to the Dell Digital Locker home page and you can find the order information in the historical order history, click on the corresponding order number, navigate to the Order Details page. Select the iDRAC License to download from the order details to enter the product details. The Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) with Lifecycle Controller technology allows administrators to monitor, manage, update, troubleshoot and remediate Dell servers from any location - and without the use of agents. Express is all I ever get, with iDRAC 7 you get quite a bit of features, you can turn it off and on, however as I recall getting a remote console (virtual KVM essentially) is a higher licensing item. If by gui you just mean the web interface with nice clicky buttons, yeah its got that.

  1. (This will change your Dell service tag, you won't get iDRAC7 enterprise without having this service tag, 9QYZF42)
  2. find and download 'OMSA71-CentOS6-x86_64-LiveDVD.iso'. It must be this older version, newer versions replaced a tool we want with a dumbed down version.
  3. Boot into it from the server and launch gnome-terminal
  4. su
  5. reboot
  6. You may notice some 'upgrading' screens. This is normal
  7. Your new service tag should be updated to 9QYZF42
  8. Open your favorite file editor and create a new XML file with the contents at the bottom of the page, starting at <?xml...
  9. Load this file as a license in your iDRAC, log out, and back in.
  10. You now have iDRAC7 enterprise!
  11. Since iDRAC authenticates using your service tag, if you go back, the license will revert to idrac basic.
  12. This obviously isn't a solution for business because duplicate service tags will cause big problems on your network during deployment, and if somebody decides to call in for service.
  13. This isn't a terrible idea for the average homelabber though.
  14. Tested on 12th generation poweredge servers, Dell PowerEdge R#20/T#20

Welcome to this week’s How To blog on how to import and export IDRAC licenses! We appreciate you stopping by our blog and hope you find the information that you are looking for.

First, you are going to login to the IDRAC from a browser using the default username and password.

Username: root

License

Password: calvin

Once you are logged in, you will click on the “licenses” link on the left hand column.

Idrac License Types

When you are in the “licenses” section there is a drop down box with the options to “import,” “export,” or delete.

Idrac License Import

Dell Idrac License

If you are trying to export it will save as an “XML” file and it will be named after the service tag that the IDRAC is tied to.

However, if you are trying to import the license, select “import” and it will bring you to a file browser. Then, you will select the XML file of the license you are trying to import and choose “accept”. If it is the correct file and the license matches the service tag it will give you an “import successful” message. If it doesn’t match it will give you a message saying the “license is not valid for this server.”

Idrac License Upgrade

Thank you for taking the time to read our blog on how to import and export IDRAC licensing! We hope it helped you succeed in importing/exporting your license.
